beginnings are important…

“I guess you are just one of those people who gets sick”.

That was one of the things that Sunlight Streams' owner, Rebecca, heard in her 20s as she was just starting her adult life and trying to figure out where she wanted to end up in the world. Just a few years before a doctor had callously told her she would “have a hip replacement by 40 because that’s what happens to girls like you”. In this case “girls like you” meant baby girls who were born with hip dysplasia and had to wear a brace around their waists as infants to stabilize the hip joint and allow muscles to form to hold the hip in place.

During the teen and young adult years, pain sometimes soared in her hip, and she was having a hard time dealing with the general stressors of growing up and figuring out a path to adulthood (can you relate?). For some people that time in life is easy; for some people, it seems natural to slide into the right decisions and right living. Not for Rebecca! She is a tester of things (so she isn’t likely to swallow any magic pill you give her—sound familiar to anyone else?). Somehow she had a generous friend who managed to get her to come to a yoga class and from there, her journey into yoga began. She is always looking at yoga from a health and healing perspective, and always using it to make her daily life a bit better.

Fast forward to today, Rebecca is in her 40s, no hip pain (or replacement) and she definitely has a reputation for staying healthy even when everyone else is sick. Want to know who yoga helps?
